Established in 1995 by Spiros Petrou,Farm Vegfruit Marketing Co Ltd, had already nearly forty years of experience in dealings with fruit and vegetables. From 1940 Spiros found himself getting involved in this line of business, when he joined as an employee the biggest private owned company in Nicosia supplying fruit and vegetables to small stores all over Cyprus.

As the years went by Spiros started foreseeing the opportunity of exporting fruit to the UK where a big Cypriot community was formed, and the demand was there from both the Cypriot community, and the British buyers as well.

After passing his thoughts about exporting to his boss Michalakis Alexandrou, with great happiness, he got the green light, to go ahead and make all that it was needed to start exporting fruit to the UK.

Together with Michalakis Alexandrou they formed a new Ltd Company in 1959, and started both exporting and still supplying the local market with fruit and vegetables as well. In this new established Company Spiros was not only an employee but a share holder as well.

Exports to the UK began in 1960 and the first fruit that was ever exported by the Company was the Verico type Grapes very favourite in the Cypriot and local British community. For 35 years the Company exported all kinds of fruit and vegetables, to many locations in the British Isles and established itself as one of the biggest exporters of fruit and vegetables in Cyprus.

In 1995 Spiros and Michalakis, after a mutual agreement came to the decision to separate the two main functions of the Company, thus Spiros taking over the exports, and Michalakis the local commission brokers, fruit and vegetables market in Nicosia.

Today Farm Vegfruit Marketing Co Ltd, exports mostly vegetables all over Europe and the Scandinavian countries, from its modern packing and cold rooms in Nicosia.

For the past three years Spiros is the President of the Cyprus Fruit and Vegetables Exporters Association.
